    Cool Employee leisure travel history

Anyone know if airline employee leisure has always been non rev or was there ever a time when it was confirmed seating? If it was confirmed seating what year did this change?

I can't say for certain that employee leisure travel has always been space-available, but I can say that it has been for many, many years. There are US tax regulations that impose very specific restricitons on "fringe benefits" such as travel. Positive space travel, for example, is restricted unless a certain percentage of the commercial fare is paid by the individual that receives that "fringe benefit". I believe most US carriers offer positive space travel at a discounted rate, e.g., 20% off a published fare. In other countries, where the laws are different, the discount offered by international carriers may be greater inlcuding 100% off but I wouldn't expect to see that anytime soon in the US.
