Default Want to feel some tremors? Go to Boston!

Just got back from Boston yesterday. Was laying down after a long day driving around New Hampshire, and vicinity, when I got back to Boston, I was wore out, decided to take a nap. Felt the bed shake, like someone was kicking it around, thought my old man was messing with me, but he was sitting on the other side of the room when I looked over, and I said, "Did you feel what I just felt"? An EARTHQUAKE!!! Of course, he felt it too. Found out later it epicentered in southern Maine, about 20 miles west of Portland. It could be felt all the way down to Connecticut. I have never felt earthquake activity in the East Coast. I have gone through seismic activity in Guam, Panama, Saipan, but never in Boston. For defenitaley a wierd phenomena there.

I was at a NRT hotel this past March ~ 1 year after the big 2011 quake and all of a sudden noticed my water bottle shaking on the table and then the whole room shaking. Turned out to be 4 something on the Richter scale and fortunately no damage but I kept worrying it was another big one and that there might be runway damage for my flight back the next day. Was fortunate to get out in F.

Japan is in the ring of fire, and that is more or less expected. As is Guam, Saipan, Philippines. Not unusual to feel something around there, but New England? But then again, when you think about it, the Appalachians run west of MA and ME so why the big beef? Only thing is when you talk to the old timers from New England, they may have felt a quake at least maybe 3 times in the past 100 years or so, and 2 of them more recently than ever. None of them causing significant kind of damage. The one I felt in Guam, I thought was going to bring down my hotel.
