This is strange. I've been looking at UA's system for every transpac flight I can think of (PEK, NRT, HKG, PVG) going eastbound, since that would make sense given the time. Nothing showing up. Probably not a charter, since I don't see anything on flightaware.
Brian look at flight#857 SFO/PVG.
Seems Sunday's (May26) it had problem.
Initially flight diverted to ANC -broken lavs
(Monday ) replacement aircraft had “mechanical problem”
Result - 2 nights, 3 aircrafts and several trips to WAL-MART.

Though 857 SFO-PVG yesterday had issues of its own. Left 15 minutes early, returned to gate almost an hour later, then left an hour after that. Arrived 1 hour 40 minutes late.
Thanks for clearing that up, saw the dateline and went with it. So Flight# 857 has a history. :rolleyes:

Bingo! UA851 yesterday ORD-ANC. Off at 12:37PM, arrived at ANC at 7:17PM. Looks like they're going to keep the same plane and have a special flight to PEK (UA1754, leaving today, ETD 8:40PM). Thankfully the vast majority of passengers are going to PEK as their final, so that helps from a rebooking standpoint.
Shows that the reason for the cancellation/diversion is "Airport Conditions" - maybe there was a freak storm in PEK that wasn't expected when they left ORD?
Three broken lavs??? Sounds like a clogging issue. Time to break open the plumbing down below. We haven't had issues like this for a while, but we've had our share of clogged shtters. Sometimes its a fluke and we get lucky, other times, its ripping into the walls to get to the plumbing. They like to clog alot by this elbow just before going into the waste tanks. Sometimes gotta run a snake in there to loosen up crud. That's a Monday job. They like giving those to Monday boys. Oh, and tonight's my Monday. Hope that plane is in Beijing.
Must be a NRT flight. Flights to NRT go right over Anchorage. Great place to divert to. It's geographically located between Narita and U.S. mainland.Quote:

Good thing about the B-777 you can run a test in the MAT or Maintenance Terminal Access and check out existing faults, and they will give you possible suspects. Could be fan itself, could be a relay gone bad most likely. Sometimes is just a matter of running a test to free it up. (Glitch). I'd rather work that airplane than the clogged lavs. Those lavs sound like either each side is clogged, either left or whole right side from fwd lav to the end. CLOGGED for sure. Somebody dumped some heavy something inside the lavs.
Yea that's the fan.....I wonder why it took another overnight for the pax to fix a cooling fan problem. Just not had the parts or something. That's a game breaker for sure.
I'm sure the limiting factor was probably crew time. That's my favorite when everything FINALLY comes together and just then the crew drops..
Palms, I learned one time to always always double check that nobody drained your potable water.......no fun when the lavs don't work..
And, as of a few minutes ago, she's out of the gate, should be off the ground any second now!
Gawd, glad I'm on days off. SFO ops center would be going nutso. I saw a few PC's yesterday and the day before. I think PVG was one of them.

And yes, PVG is Shanghai Pudong. Now a lovely 747 daily flight from SFO!
