On time performance is nice and all that but consider this. When a plane takes a hit due to maintenance, you want the issue to be resolved correctly, with no short cuts. I guess the flying public doesn't see this. Weather happens and things break down. Other factors tie in like planning, things that come up regarding scheduled inspections and maintenance, bogus write ups by fa's and pilots on the gate, (Not necessarily ill intended but perhaps like error operations or not knowing how something works or overlooking something as simple as a switch.) Yes, it's nice to have that golden star pasted on the top of your quiz.
