    Default PHX car rental

    Hi guys...

is is there a recommended (cheapest) car rental company to use in PHX? I will be there for 9 days in early March & being a BA employee we get 30% discount with Alamo, but their prices have shot up! I know its busy that time of year (spring training etc). Anyone have any recommendations? Being a foreigner I will need the LDW & liability insurance etc. Any discount codes you guys use with a specific rental company.? Thanks

Its just best to check a few sites like Kayak, carrentals, coscto (if you are a member) and also the rental companies sites and reserve. If prices go down then make another reservation and cancel the first one.
The U.S. is starting to have Sixt for rental cars-I believe this is a European company-maybe you would not need the insurance with them?

I would have expected that you looked but here is a list of rental car companies at PHX. I normally do not rent from the LOWer cost companies (Firefly, Sixt, Fox, Payless) and a lot of the time I find the same or lower cost going directly through the companies website.

I would think you would not be able to do better than Alamo with 30% off though. Is I type this there is an add on the nonrev page for 25% off Budget using code D626000, maybe try that.

Again, make reservations now to make sure prices do not go up and then make more reservations if prices go down. Check a few times a week as they can change quickly.

    Edited to add
If you are fine with a 4 to 5 hour drive, maybe check and fly into/out of LAX if it could save you a some money (now its time vs savings thing)

Rental rates at PNX are extremely high (taxes and tacked on fees) go off site to rent your car. MRSDS1DONNA is our go-to on Phoenix and all things Arizona, I’m sure she’ll have a suggestion or two.
Also I’ve made that LA/Phoenix trek quite a few times, 5 to 6 hours is more like it.

Not specific to PHX but I have had luck with Priceline's name your own price for some last minute rentals. They end up being well known companies such as Avis, Hertz, Alamo, etc. but at much lower cost.

Thanks one & all I've managed to come across these guys Cheap Car Rentals, Best Prices Guaranteed! - rentalcars.com got an excellent price with Thrifty (inc all taxes, fees, cdw, liability insurance etc) for £142 (approx $213) for an economy car for a 9 day rental. I take it Thrifty are ok? I've always used Alamo in the past.

~$25/day for a car rental is pretty darn good, ESPECIALLY in a major city's airport. And yeah, Thrifty is one of the major companies out here, so I wouldn't worry much.

And wait... that includes insurance? Holy crap! I would think you would come close to that price on insurance alone!
