Default ID90 idiosyncrasies - trying to figure out

(Possibly this is posted in the wrong category; I'm a newbie here, and if I got it wrong hopefully a moderator will fix it. Apologies in advance if that's the case).

I've done a bunch of non-rev travel, but mostly domestic. I'm trying to assemble a trip BOS <--> AKL for next spring. When I plug the route into ID90, I get BOS-->CLE-->ORD-->HNL-->AKL; doable, but every leg is on another line, so I'll be at the bottom of the pecking order; four chances to get stranded. I can get to HNL on my own line. But when I enter HNL-->AKL, it won't offer me the direct HNL-->AKL that shows up on the first route - it wants to route me through SYD. Any idea what might be going on? The HNL-->AKL leg is on HA, but when I try to enter HNL-->AKL with only HA selected, it tells me no flights found.

(BTW, I tried on myTravelID, but as 'parent of', I don't qualify for any of the lines that list there.)

    Thanks,
    -lr

Not being familiar w/B6 options, I'd say your best bet is work point to point. I use matrix search engine. Always keep in mind you may have to pass go to get back to where you want...

Sometimes just simply buying a revenue ticket with a reservation is the best way.
Take 2-3-4-5 carriers with ID90 (or ZED fares) and total the amount spent and
the sum of these exceeds the price of a ticket with reservation.
Another option buy the revenue ticket for the most difficult leg of the journey.
Cavet traveling NR to get to the point of the Holding Confirmed space can be
    dicey.
Have you researched an ID ticket on Air New Zeland does your B6 airline permit this ?
As mrs767er noted about passing GO - possibly consider flying to a point in Asia or
Australia (Philipines - Singapore) and get to your destination from the other side of the
Pacific as long as the fare is cheap and the timing gets you there.
Do you have exchange travel priviledges with United; Qantas or Delta for LAX SYD
or American/Qantas for DFW SYD portion to construct a routing ?
Something to remember when buying the least expensive (cheap) ticket when you
check-in it does not hurt to mention that you are part of the travel industry. It may
not get you anything but yet if the gate agent is having trouble trying to get all them
alligators (crocodiles) but failed to drain the swamp you may be the key to helping
him find a solution and instead of an economy cramped seat - it might get you a
comfort plus seat - who knows. Still yet traveling NR - getting there at all is the
challenge - make the most of it !

Absolutely right about buying rev tkt when needed. Just did that to travel CDG/Malta. Not much more to buy tkt thru AF than ezed. There are so many LCCs in Oceania/SE Asia. Just keep the luggage down for $ and read all the Ts&Cs. Hope you'll return and post your success with this "project".

Yup, also bought tickets recently. DEN-MCO in January (when in-law's are getting together for Disney) using UA's confirmed discount. $220/person, can't complain!

RM your words paint a very interesting picture.

    Edited To Add
As RM mentioned do take a look at NZ, as of Dec. 15 they will operate five round trips per week IAH/AKL.

Not sure but maybe your dates are bad. Hawaiian Airlines only flies to AKL on Mon. Wed. and FRI. so make sure you are using one of those days. The other thing to do is find out all the airlines you can ZED on and then go to Wikipedia and type in iata AKL in the search, this will get you to this, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auckla...d_destinations then scroll down to airlines and destinations and see what airlines you have access to that fly into AKL. Between www.flightlookup.com, www.flightconnections.com, and Wikipedia you can come up with fairly accurate flights. Not all of them and what they say is not always accurate. Always go to the airline website to verify flights. You might have to get to SYD and then purchase a ticket, but loads might be low in the spring as that is the fall season over there. If you wait until July and you can fly United, they start going between SFO-AKL July 3rd. With the ZED's my parents have access to the only airline that they could fly to AKL right now is Hawaiian Airlines. You might be the same. Anyways, hope this is helpful.
