With Thanksgiving nearly a week away, CLT officials are preparing for another high-traffic holiday travel season. Airport personnel held a media briefing Tuesday in anticipation of their busiest time of year, advising that holiday flight traffic this year could reach record numbers as it did last year, with more than 800,000 fliers passing through CLT from Nov. 25-Dec. 1. That number is equivalent to the Queen City's population. "Parking will be in high demand, so we want to remind folks that parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis," he said. "We anticipate having enough overall parking capacity, but some of the economy lots may not be available."
To help ease parking issues, the airport will open the daily north parking lot this year at a rate of $8 per day, adding about 1,200 public spaces. The newly-designed roadway at CLT and consolidated rental car facility should also create less commercial traffic for local passengers, Judon said.
Extra shuttle buses, traffic personnel and airport staff stationed in the lobby should also help control the large surge in volume, Judon said.
Delta Airlines in ATL are showing that there heaviest travel days are 11/24th - 25th and 11/29/15.
