I am going to be going to Oahu next summer and I need to find a place to stay on the north east side of Oahu. Does anyone know of anything there. If I cant find anything I will just stay at Hilton Turtle Bay. but I prefer to find something a bit cheaper. I will be needing two seperate condos because we are taking our friends and they have 5 kids that will be going.
Thanks,

Hilton Turtlehead??? I'm not sure what that is? By northeast do you mean the windward side? If so there's not much. The windward side is primarily for locals and natives (except Kaneohe) - even though its the best side of Oahu. I have inlaws that live on the windward side. Give me some more details and maybe I can be of some help.

This may be more west than you're looking for, but there are a couple of places west of the Hilton near the Bonzai Pipeline that we found. We stayed at <a href="http://backpackers-hawaii.com/" target="_blank">http://backpackers-hawaii.com/</A> They had a range of different types of accomodations from dorm type to having your own cabin, reasonable prices. We loved this place and every night there was an all you can eat feast for about $8pp (bbq chicken night, luau night, etc.), good food too. East of there was a place called Shark's Cove <a href="http://www.hostels.com/sharkscove/" target="_blank">http://www.hostels.com/sharkscove/</A> which is also a hostel with private cabins etc.
Also when finding these links came across this vacation rental: <a href="http://www.greatvacationhomes.com/rentals/4302.html" target="_blank">http://www.greatvacationhomes.com/rentals/4302.html</A> and this one: <a href="http://hawaii-scuba.com/accommodation.html" target="_blank">http://hawaii-scuba.com/accommodation.html</A>

What was I thinking.. I know it's not Turtlehead.. It is Turtle Bay Hilton.. I dont know where we will be staying but I think we are looking for a semi upscale place, just a reasonable price. something around $75.00 a night would be great.

I think you may need to look into private rentals, there are not a lot of options on the North Shore.

...and of course I should've recognized Turtle. You've found a great place (if you can get a good rate). There's not much touristy on the North Shore with good reason. While the state depends heavily on tourism they want to keep Oahu's damn, pesky tourists in their place! ie. Waikiki. The ugly urban sprawl was planned that way to keep you out of the local's hair as much as possible.

Like Meg, I too would recommend a house or condo on the North Shore. There are lots to choose from but they are far from cheap - generally $200-$500 per night for an average place. If you're willing to splurge I can give you some links. If 2 or 3 couples are travelling together you can split the cost and make it affordable.

Here's a few links.

<a href="http://www.islandrentals.net/" target="_blank">http://www.islandrentals.net/</A>
<a href="http://www.sunsethomes.net/" target="_blank">http://www.sunsethomes.net/</A>
<a href="http://www.sandsea.com/" target="_blank">http://www.sandsea.com/</A>
<a href="http://www.firsthawaiianvacation.com/home.htm" target="_blank">http://www.firsthawaiianvacation.com/home.htm</A>

These should get you started. Most of them are realtors who rent out these places for their owners. Don't worry there's no time-share or other presentation. They just take a commission out of your rental price for their work.

You also might try www.asuguide.com it seems that they had some private condos on various islands at one time. I haven't checked them in a while.

Good luck, if you need more links I have them.

Thanks Randy, i will look into those.. One of them might work for our needs and that would be a big help.. I still am thinking about turtle bay but I was told it is a bit of a hike to the beach, and I want to be right on a beach for the kids. We still have lots of time so I think by getting a good head start I will find something that will work..
Thnaks again,

This is a great site to find a place at, Evan. www.vrbo.com We rented a place on Ewa Beach that had plenty of room for our family of nine....in fact, we had two to choose from. Since you are travelling with friends and their kids, you might check this one out. <a href="http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Farm/6719/kahakai.htm" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Farm/6719/kahakai.htm</A> It's right on the beach, and they have different quarters, too, that would be available for both your families to be 'together', yet 'separate'. The couple who rents them are wonderful! We stayed down the road from here, in this same local neighborhood, and felt completely comfortable and safe. We left the upstairs lanai doors open the entire 2 wks. that we were there in Dec. 2001.
Hope some of this info helps~
