We stayed at the LaQuinta off the strip...they had shutttle service to/from ATO...it was an OK hotel...about 70.00 a night at Airline rate, continetal breakfast included...next day took cab to stay up on strip...cab was inexpensive...it's about 3/4 mile to strip.
The Station Casinos where my husband had a Company meeting this last week had 29.95 rates. They are 3 star hotels but not on the strip. To see the Hoover dam, Late Mead and the Red Rock Canyon we needed to rent a car anyway. So we were fine with the distance to the main drag.
One thing we both noticed was how dead Los Vegas was. Guess the airlines are not the only group having a slow time. Everyone is advertising great deals. If you are planning to go now is the time.
There are two Howard Johnson's that are off the strip and offer airline rates. One is right at the airport. Both offer free shuttles to and from the airport. The last time I stayed at the airport one, the airline rate was forty something I think.
