Is anyone familiar with the Embassy Suites/Mandalay Beach Resort? My brother is getting married there and we were going to stay there but it is fairly expensive. Since I don't get industry discounts anymore, does anybody know a way to get a cheaper rate (I was quoted $244/night, least expensive rate available)? Or, is anybody familiar with the area and know a hotel that is next door to this place or something like that?

    HELP!

Couldn't believe it when I saw Oxnard. Most people never heard of it except Johnny Carson used to make fun of it years ago. I grew up in Oxnard and the surrounding area for most of my life. There are very few hotels around the Mandalay Bay resort as it's kind of by itself on the beach. But just up around the corner at Channel Islands Harbor is the Lobster Trap and there is a hotel there and I believe a few more. Search for Channel Islands Harbor for hotels there. There are also a few on Channel Islands Boulevard which is one of the MAIN roads down to the beach and Mandalay Bay area so you should find a much cheaper room somewhere along there. Good luck!!!

    Hi Meg
While hotel reservations will seldom mention them, a city's convention & visitor's bureau is only toooo happy to tell you about hotel discounts. The Embassy Suites-Mandalay Beach is offering a "Go Coastal Hotel Package" promotion through March 31, room rates are from $169 and include lots of area discount coupons. You must contact the hotel direct to get rate. Also hotels usually offer reduced rates for members of a wedding party. You might have your brother check with his wedding planner. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely check with the visitor's bureau closer to the time for any specials that they may be having. I really don't think there is any incentive to book it now. My mom will be down there in Feb checking the alternatives, so we'll see if they find any decent alternatives.

Have you checked their website? I have found that you can often get betterrates on hotels through their website than you can by calling them directly when they don't offer any interline discount. You never know!

    Hi Meg,

The Mandalay sits all by itself, but it is right on the beach and has a great little park right next door. There are very few hotels in the area.

There is the Casa Sirena on the harbor about 1 mile away. www.casasirenahotel.com Also the Casa Via Mar on Channel Island Blvd about 1 1/2 miles away. www.casaviamar.com

The Mandalay does give military, police and fireman discounts. Definitely mention your brothers wedding and ask if they offer any type of discount.

    Good luck.
