Hi Skygurl--Just a few notes to add to your Vegas info. . .
#1) Vegas has a HUGR convention Jan 09-12 called CES (computer) Rates at all hotels are increased and it is almost impossible to non-rev at that time. Check out: http://www.lasvegastalk.com/conventions/large.html
for conventions whenever you plan a trip to LAS. A huge convention may make it difficult to get there and back.
#2) Try the hotel sites web pages direct. Mandelay Group--Circus Circus, Luxor, Mandaley Bay, Excalibur all claim that their cheapest rates are on their web sites. Sign up to receive their e-mails and you may be offered even cheaper rates!
#3)Check out some of the chat rooms
(see http://pub112.ezboard.com/blasvegastalk )for leads on cheap hotels also check out all the non-rev internet sites. .. .. If you can narrow it down to one or two hotels you can call them directly and ask for their best rate and if they have an airline rate. (I've never gotten the cheapest rate being an airline employee!) Also, check out the Orleans Hotel and casino web site for a good off-strip alternative. (they have a bus to take you to strip--runs every 10 min or so. . .) You may also want to check out
Travelaxe, but it requires a download.
#4) Once you get to LAS if you plan to go back within a year--sign up for and use the slot club card at every casino you go into! Then you'll start to get offers in the mail offering you what is called "casino rate" for a room. If you play enuf--you'll get free room offers too! Good luck and have a great time--Jean H
