Hi Kara,
I was just reading your post on Maui.I went to the Polynesian Shores website just to check it out. Honestly it looks like it is an ok place! It is near Lahaina, which has lots of shops and restaurants. You can snorkel right out front of the Sheraton on Kaanapali. You will have a lot of things close by. You can always drive up to the top of the Volcano with your son. The Road to Hana is beautiful, but long. We had our friends kids with us and it worked out ok cos we stopped at some of the zillion waterfalls along the way so they could jump off and play. We stayed both up in Kaanapali and also on the southern part of Maui in Wialea (think I am spelling that wrong!), which I enjoyed a lot more. It was a lot less crowded and touristy.
Anyway, once you get your car, there is a Costco and a Super KMart near the airport to get your food for your condo. If you go to one of the regular grocery stores, MAKE SURE you fill out one of their store cards for discounts. It doesnt matter that you dont live on Hawaii. It will save you A LOT of money on your food! Also.. did you check out the interline rates on www.outrigger.com ? They are really good to airline employees. Have fun and let me know if I can be of any help!
