Looks like you had fun. Unfortunately when I was at Mojave as couple of years ago they'd stopped the tour stuff cos of Sept. 11th. ( Obvious terror target .. a bunch of scrapped planes in the middle of a desert !!! ). Anyhow .. not wanting to be seen as a Boeing or Airbus but as you mentioned 'stitch mode' there is a nifty piece of shareware around called 'Panorama Factory' that lets you stitch together images without needing to bother with the mode on the camera.
Unfortunately I don't know of an any auto-shutter adjustment software !!!
