Each school has it's own calendar so one day a school may be off but the others will be on. Only holiday we have in common are the federal ones and those are just one day holidays. The same goes with spring break. the entire country doesn't celebrate spring break at the same time so for something like that you would have to check the school district.

Hi Vicki, I see you're still trying to avoid the crowds. I've got to go along with VenusFan, most school holidays (even in Hawaii) are one day, so that shouldn't be a factor in choosing a travel date. However assuming you want to avoid the crowds at the beach, avoid Easter/Spring Break, the last week of April/first week of May (Japan's Golden Week), the summer and the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Drop a line to Randy (Chicago correspondent), he jets over there all the time and will have a better idea on good travel times.

    and Vicki before you ask

Hawaii doesn't observe daylight savings time.

They're right. School holidays vary from island to island and from district to district even on the same islands. Some schools have year-round school and others don't.

The best times for Hawai'i travel is right now: January (after New Year's) thru about mid February and September (after labor Day) thru most of October.

Avoid June as most mainland schools let out and everyone is off on their first vacations. Not to mention all those pesky weddings on the beach that interupt your sun. Add to the list major holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and the like.

School Holiday Coming up in a few weeks. If your visiting New York let it be known that Feb 20-25 will be winter recess and most public schools will be closed.

You can go to the DOE site and each school has a website. On their website they have a calendar. I would just avoid spring break..other than that you should be fine. Our spring break is Mar 24-31st, but we are on the Big Island. Enjoy your stay!!!

Thanks for the info. Have now had a change of plans -(got a great deal staying at a new resort in Fiji) so now will be looking at Hawaii in January 2007.
