Just got in from DCA today after staying three nights around the Dupont Circle, Rhode Island Avenue area. Beautiful weather. The leaves are turning colors and they are falling all around, as the squirrels hop around the parks and circles looking for nuts. Very interesting city. I walked all over the place. I saw the Fords theatre, a statue of William Tecumseh Sherman on a horse, statue of Ulysses S. Grant on his horse on 14th street, Pulaski on his horse in Pennsylvania Avenue. I walked around the Vietnam memorial wall, walked around the national mall area too. Lots of hiking around, my sneakers are worn down and time for a new pair. In the Dupont Circle area, latinos gather for games of dominos, people sleep now on the grass taking advantage of cool temperatures, and the smell of weed in the air from people "Lighting up" for a buzz. But the walking didn't stop there. Yesterday, went by Metro sub to Glenn Forrest, where I took a bus to the 4 corners area on University Blvd not far from where I used to live as a kid a long time ago. Took a walk amongst my old neighborhood, most everyone there is now gone. The leaves and foilage around my neighborhood and SLIGO WOODS which happenes to be the most beautiful woods in the world, and it still smells the same. Sligo creek runs through the woods in beautiful fashion. A trip down memory lane of sewage crawling to see where we would end up, and one time it ended up right there in the creek. Kids today, now with internet, cannot ride to school alone, or left alone to ride their bikes all over the area like we once roamed around back in late 1960's and early 1970's. Times have definately changed but the woods all look the same, beautiful. The four corners area alot of Peruvian, Mexican restaurants, lots more latinos and Afro-Americans then before. Its become more far more multi-ethnical. New immigrants now living where once mostly white people lived. It almost seems like Washington DC has really conglomerated into Silver Spring. But Washington DC is a fine city, I love the place, great town, beautiful weather right now, great people from all over the world now. Suddenly, I am back in IAH where the temperature heat index today is 96. No fall weather here. JUST FOUL weather. SIZZLING HOT. Take me back home once again where God paints the leaves now into beautiful colors.
