Default Where the hell is 29 Palms?

Man, that trip to Vegas hit a real memory lane tune with me. Same desert as in 29 Palms, CA.

Where in the Hell is 29 Palms Bumper Sticker | Sgt Grit - Marine Corps Store

I didn't make up "Where the hell is 29 Palms." They've sold t-shirts like that ever since I was in. They probably still do. Here is a bumper sticker.

Palms, are there 29 Palms trees in 29Palms, for that matter are there even 29 trees? All I’ve ever seen out there is the off-ramp sign and lots of sagebrush.
And of course the occasional Marine convoy and helicopters flying over.

I read that when the OASIS was founded sometime in the early 1800's by mormons on their way to California, they counted 29 Palms in the oasis. I read that some still stand.

Let me ask you these. Chicago means "Smelly onion". Are there any more stinkin onions growing in Chicago? Is there still a FLAG STAFF in Flagstaff Arizona? Do the Houston Oilers play in Houston anymore? Are there any Buffalo's in New York?

I remember you posted about your run to Las Vegas once, so you live in LA? Have you ever checked out Joshua Tree NP? I remember going there and going into the visitors center, it was pretty interesting. I didn't go around the complete park, had no wheels at the time.

Yes I live in L.A. and make the run over to Vegas quite a lot - miles and miles of nothingness.
Haven’t been out to Joshua Tree, although I have made it out to Death Valley, it was HOT!!!!

I'm guessing there aren't a lot of buffaloes roaming around New York, although I bet you'll find plenty of wings. * I know -I'll get my hat* *laughing*

Joshua NP is right there where the town of 29 Palms is. The base is a few miles north of the town, through some maybe 5 mile stretch of nothing. But who knows now? 29 Palms USMC base is quite isolated. Next time I go to Vegas, I'm going to rent a car and take a drive around the high desert. The surrounding hills and desert around Vegas reminded me alot of 29 Palms. Instant flashbacks. Only in Vegas there is more casinos, more beer and more .......you guessed it.......WENCHES (As Conan would say it.)

I did make it to LA quite a few times. Especially in the Hollywood area. Would stay at the Holiday inn there. HOLLYWIERD for sure. When I was there, the song "VALLEY GIRLS" came out. We went to Valley Mall just to see if they really talked that way, but no female there would give us poor jarheads the time of day. SOB SOB....(They must have caught wind that we just show up on weekends to tear up the town.)

Late as usual with my post..Love 29 Palms, or the area at least. Just took the 2 Claremont-based granddaughters (6 & 9) camping 3 days before T'giving, to Desert Hot Springs (do we haaaaave to leave???) and Joshua Tree (my 2nd time), a blast. But 29 Palms (the place) likes to get real confusing because its main attraction for my money is an oasis you can hike to called 49 Palms!! Go figger! Happy Yuletide all.
