Chicago wrap-up
Well I ate my way across the city, pizza at Giordano’s, hot dogs at Portillo’s, lamb crepes in Greektown, and backyard steaks which were grilled in the pouring rain (Chicagoans grill no matter what the weather).
Getting around Chicago is pretty easy- great public transportation, the CTA Blue line runs between the Loop and ORD 24/7. But if you want to drive around Chicagoland there’s one thing you should know - if there’s no snow, there’s road construction.
People in Chicago like to say that Chicago has two seasons: winter and construction, trust me it’s the truth - lane/road closures, detours, flaggers and orange barrels are everywhere.
And if you ever wondered if those real time traffic tracker/alerts are worth it, yes they are; I wish someone in my family had signed up for it.

On a side note, I met a rookie non-rev trying to meet up with friends in Hawaii.
Her plan a quick trip on a D2 - RDU/DFW/HNL (waiting for the laughter to die down)
The RDU/DFW segment went well, then things went progressively downhill.
After a day of rollovers and a night in DFW, she (on the spur of the moment) decided to fly to ORD and try her luck there,
uh-huh… from the frying pan into the fire.
ORD was two more days of rollovers and nights at the motor lodge which is where she finally saw the writing on the wall - Forget Hawaii! - a more defeated non-rev you never saw.
Too bad she didn’t know about a forum of non-revs who would have told her about the importance of back-ups, that you never make a nonrefundable booking at a Hawaiian hotel and that sometimes you just have to fly to LA and then buy a ticket - she knows all that now, a lesson learned the hard way.
