Hi Madge, welcome to the forum
Driving the highway and to suddenly see in the distance lines of aircraft sittting, shimmering in the desert sun, makes many the uninformed first-time Mojave Desert visitor do a double take. The planes all have their windows and engines taped and most have been stripped of their distingushing markings, yet there is a beauty, as the planes stand silent patiently waiting to fly again. While many of the planes (especially since 9-11) are parked waiting to be called back, or 're-leased', older planes are being sold off as scrap. Of course I like to think of them as being recycled.
After visitng The Mojave storage/graveyard you might want to visit March Field Museum at March AFB, lots of great military aircraft. Great plane spotting
Keep'em flying
