As a 23 year-old in the UK, I never thought I'd get the chance to fly on a 727, but deliberately incorporated a 727 flight into a USA trip last summer. Myself & a friend flew on a UA 727-200 on the ORD-LGA route on a nonrev ticket, and it was a really nice aircraft to fly on. We even flew on a Fokker F27 on that trip too, which was an even more unlikely experience!
I might be visiting the Mojave aircraft storage site next Spring, so there'll be plenty of 727s there..... Anyone ever been there who can share their experiences???
Hi Madge, welcome to the forum
Driving the highway and to suddenly see in the distance lines of aircraft sittting, shimmering in the desert sun, makes many the uninformed first-time Mojave Desert visitor do a double take. The planes all have their windows and engines taped and most have been stripped of their distingushing markings, yet there is a beauty, as the planes stand silent patiently waiting to fly again. While many of the planes (especially since 9-11) are parked waiting to be called back, or 're-leased', older planes are being sold off as scrap. Of course I like to think of them as being recycled.
After visitng The Mojave storage/graveyard you might want to visit March Field Museum at March AFB, lots of great military aircraft. Great plane spotting

I love the 727 it is a great aircraft and i believe that any aircraft that you can find in the mojave desert should still be in the skys.
It always makes you feel good wnen you see a aircraft like the 727, dc-10, l1011, old 737's, old 747's, a300, and dc-9's or indeed any aircraft that you can has been retired still flying!!!!!
Hi Mojave welcome aboard. I visited MHV as recently as June 05 ( see my Mojave Trip Report ) There were quite a few 727s, DC10s and 747s stored there, a lot of them had been sold off for scrap. It's a sad fact of life but aviation history often ends in a salvage yard.

Still i would love to awake to the sound of a mojave plane than a shuttle but still it would have been nice 2 c. i did however c clumbia on the launch platform in 2000 but they had got it ready for a upcuming huricane still i like hurricanes so that was ok.
