This quiz tests your knowledge of movies with aviation themes. I'll give you a short synopsis or a movie line and you have to figure out the movie. Most of the movies are "classics", however I did include a few "fun" movies, to keep you on your toes.

    <UL TYPE=SQUARE>
    1. *cue Danger Zone* "I feel the need...the need for speed"

    2. "I told you there would be no difficulty in building this airplane. I also told you it would require an outstanding pilot to fly it. The only thing outstanding about you, Mr. Towns, is your stupidity."

    3. "Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes."

    4. "Let's look at this thing from a ...um, from a standpoint of status. What do we have on the spacecraft that's good?"

    5. "I see: the scientists do the thinking for the world, and the rest of us just live in it, is that right?" "Yes!"
Ok, I'll give you a little help with this one, a very short synopsis- an aeronautical engineer predicts that a new model of plane will fail catastrophically after a specific number of flying hours.

    6. This movie deals with a German pilot in WW1 who ruthlessly pursues a coveted medal.

    7. In this sequel a 747 crashes into the middle of the Bermuda Triangle. Fortunately the planes submerses intact and has enough emergency power to give pax and crew ample time to search for a way out...their solution...attaching balloons to the undercarriage and floating the plane to the surface; fantastic, yes, but that's nothing compared to seeing the Coronado Islands in the background during the rescue. Interesting enough, I couldn't find any memorable lines from this movie.

    8. "Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of
    error."

    9. "GET OFF MY PLANE!"

    10. "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"[/list]

As previously stated, a detailed explanation of scoring is available by sending Mrs. Field's chocolate chips cookies (with walnuts) to Migflanker at LAX. Inquiries will be answered within 6 to 8 weeks and are not valid in Australia, Illinois and certain counties in Florida.

    Let's see some answers

    1 - Top Gun

2 - Flight of the Phoenix

3 - Well, the movie was titled "Flying High" for it's release down here, but I think it was called "Airplane" in the USA. (The first one in 1980 with Leslie Neilson)

    4 - Apollo 13

5 - No Highway. (A magnificent novel too, just quietly. Mr. Shute outdid himself.)

    6 - The Red Baron

    7 - Airport 77

    8 - 2001 A Space Odyssey

    9 - Air Force One

10 - The Day The Earth Stood Still

Vicki it's a sad fact but these days you need a disclaimer on almost everything. While the information in my quizzes has been researched and all efforts have been made to insure accuracy; it is also true that mileage may vary, some contents may settle during shipment, many suitcases look alike, the list was current at time of printing, some assembly is required and objects in mirror may be closer than they appear. That said, it is truly unforunate that at the present time, Australian football rules as well as recently passed quiz laws in Illinois and certain counties in Floridia make my disclaimer necessary....now pass the cookies.

Al you scored 9 out of 10, I gave you credit for question 5, "No Highway"; in the U.S. that film was released under the title "No Highway in the Sky". You also received bonus points for mentioning Nevil Shute, impressive.

So Al/anyone care to guess where Al made is one mistake?

    Number 6.
(And if it's the : that's meant to be between "2001" and "A space odyssey" in number 10, I'm firing off a protest !!)

Al calm down...take a deep breath, I don't penalize for punctuation errors. You missed question 6, and you missed it with "flying colors".
