    Hi Everyone.....

I sold my business of 7 plus years last December, and after 5 months of retirement....began my career in aviation/travel...working part-time mainly for the benefits

Even though I have gained some senority in only 15 weeks at my station, I mistakingly thought I was entering a reduced stress evironment/vocation (silly me) When flight benefits kicked in after 15 days, we (my family) were off and flying, traveling about 3 extended weekends a month.

I hope to contribute to this board as I gain experience (amazing what you learn from cancellations, time spent in airpoerts and frequent travel), and of course have a slew of questions for those that have been around.

    Gr8 Board

Welcome aboard. Always glad to see a new face around here. If you have any questions about destinations, travel planning, or general nonrev advice, feel free to ask. I've been in this industry for almost 8 years now and many of the correspondants have been nonrevving much longer than that!

Hi A of DNA, welcome to the forum. From the sound of it you hit the ground running with your flight privileges, don't forget to ask about travel industry discounts at hotels too. Since you're new to non-revving, you might want to check out "How to Nonrev" in the articles section. You know with all your traveling I'm expecting some really inventive ways to get comfortable in those airport chairs.

Thanks, heading to the link soon, saw it mentioned w/o the link before..

So far we have found a mix of Industry discounts (good advice btw), but I'd say about 1/2 the time, we found AARP to be stronger, esp in Canada where it's one or the other, some simply don't know what AARP is...lol (D of DNA is a young 50 )

D, also created some test cushions out of memory foam (NASA stuff left over from our bed), we found the right size for our anatomy (cut and covered w/an ordinary pillow case) for the planes...but works a bit on the A/Port chairs....packs pretty well as it compresses.

But as you know, the secret is to list for first when you can

Thanks so much! As I see it (Non-revving) is a system.... the only thing I remember from getting my MBA decades ago was one Finance prof saying.."Your duty is to find imperfections in the system and expploit them!"

While "exploit" may be too strong of a word....we really need to get this wired quickly....I want to take D to Europe by our B-days in December, our son (19) wants Japan and China!

I have some advantage in nonrevving because I work in reservations. I can easily check who flies to which destinations and how much the cost of the pass will be. It helps tremendously. The best advice I can give you is to check flight loads carefully and make informed decisions as to whether you want to go somewhere when all the flights back are booked to capacity or showing less than 10 seats. NEVER nonrev somewhere when you have a tight deadline and the flights aren't wide open (wide open is subject to interpretation but I like to know there are more seats open than nonrevs listed). There is no need to get so many passes and hold them. Get them as you plan your trips and get back ups.

...and knowing when to jump ship and change your destination! There we were at the ticket counter excited about our "wide-open" flight to London. Ut oh, the flight before ours was cancelled, the "wide opened" changed quite drastically! So...made lemonade out of the lemon situation, and change our destination to San Francisco! Be flexible and be ready for change!

Welcome aboard the travel industry DNA...have a great time!

Not to mention the weather/mechanical gremlins. Interesting how a 'little' blizzard in Chicago, thunderstorms in Dallas or a hydraulic problem in NYC can force a change of equipment and I'm waving good-bye to my "wide-open" flight in LA.

    Thanks for the welcome!

This just happened to us in YYC two weeks ago...we made plans in case of getting bumped, not cancelled (We could have had a ZED fare to YEG as a back-up, except I was still on probation w/that carrier, needed passes for Horizon, so back to the issue of my other post) So it took and extra 15 hours to get home...lessons learned!

Thanks...would you like to be my new "best friend?" ....lol (semi serious, we use SHARES and I can only see my carriers (2))

I also know exactly what you mean... in my short aviation career, so far:

We had to abort SEA, we could get in, but not out easily (now have back-up passes on SW)....MRY and SAN are similar, the summer must have been huge for the industry?

Or a bent nose gear on a push back in MEM on a MEM-PHX-YYC.... trouble is, sometimes info is slower to travel than we are....the arriving city (YYC) thought that plane was coming....lol
