HNL/ Days (The Dark Ages of Carbons and Red Ink)
One of my first non-rev trips. At that time you listed by phone or at AA ticket offices/ counters. Loads were rated as ‘good‘, ‘fair’ and ‘poor’ and you carried a worldwide timetable and paper tickets with carbons in red ink.
We listed 24 hours in advance, were told the flight was “good” and lounged on the beach sipping umbrella drinks and watching Santa paddle ashore in an outrigger.

When we arrived at HNL the next day our tickets were pulled and put into a huge stack, we were told there were “lots of people (days) ahead of us” (like I said, it was the Dark Ages).
Later at our new “airline friendly” hotel (bye bye Waikiki) we met a veteran non-rev who over a “neat“ drink, explained “boarding priority” . So we re-listed, spent a day on the Big Island and connected through HNL, having learned the benefit of both experience and ITO.
