An American pilot is facing criminal firearms charges in YYC as well as charges under the Customs Act after a loaded gun was allegedly discovered in his carry-on luggage.

The Canadian Border Services says the pilot with Skywest Airlines was trying to clear security when he was arrested a week ago.

The CSB says in a statement that Canada’s laws clearly state travellers must declare all goods, including any firearms and weapons in their possession, when they enter Canada.

The agency says every person arriving by air must complete a declaration form, and the first question requires them to say whether or not they are transporting firearms.

Joshua Petty White has been released on a $4,000 bond. He’s set to appear in court on April 29.
