Hey Chris, that sounds about right. Back in 1990 when I was there, and it seems like yesterday, 120 Lempiras was worth about 60 dollars. If you took your U.S. dollar to a bank, they returned to you 2 Lempiras for the dollar. BUT, if you were hanging around the bars, and drinking beer, they would give you an exchange for 3 to 1. The dollar was welt and dealt like in the black market. Some guys boasted getting up to 5 to 1. Now, I hear its like alot more. Your dollar can buy a bucu dinero LEMPIRAS in Hondo. It's so cheap down there, and Nicaragua is cheap too, so that's good because most GRINGO'S are scared to run down there. They think Al Queda is gonna get them there. If not them, some Sandanista, whom are no longer in power down there. If coastal Honduras sounds like its for you, I would recommend flying into LA CEIBA or TEGUZ. (Tegucigalpa) La Ceiba is on the caribbean but Trujillo where I was, is east of it. Trujillo did have an airstrip. There is a good website if you punch in TRUJILLO HONDURAS on your search engine. I've seen it before. I don't know enough to comment on La Ceiba or Teguz, but I can tell you that I had a blast in Trujillo.![]()
