Traveling for the first time on Royal Caribbean on an interline rate. Does anyone know if RCCL will offer cabin upgrades on a space available basis? I know some lines offer this similar to that of non-reving on the airlines. If so, is this something that can be requested in advance? At the pier during check-in? Or what is the best way to go about trying for a stand-by upgrade? Thanks!

Most cruise lines will auto upgrade when you book thru an interline agency that has a good standing, ie preferred status. I know with http://www.Interlinerates.com they will check for you and many times they will do a complimentary upgrade, if your documents have not already been printed.

The other option is to ask at the pier. I have found that last minute stuff just doesn't happen as much as it use to. If you don't ask, you don't get! As always, non rev rules apply, after all interline rates are a privilliage not a right.. Be nice and you never know what you might get.

Great question. I have always had coooperation from RCCL and HAL. Not so for Celebrity. We booked two cabins before 9/11 and while everyone was running away, we stayed loyal. They were miserable at the pier and would not upgrade the other party (my cousin.) We had a confirmation for a better room and upon arrival, they refused to honor same. As far as I am concerned, the travel agency handling this blew it.

we were also on Celebrity post 9/11 and there were lots of problems during that transitional period. Staff just did not know what they were doing. We had 50 people in our group and because of the "new" (at least at that time) National Patriot Act. One of our friends names did not make it on their manifest and was denied boarding. She had to fly home. Even though Celebrity admitted the error and compensated our friend, she still did not get to go on the trip with her buddies...

Hopefully, that is all behind us now.

The travel agency you use makes a huge difference.

I've been using Interline Cruise Connections for years. [airlinecruise.com]. I have to laugh at one agency that brags about having "over 100 years experience" across their 15-person staff. Interline Cruise Connections has been doing Interline cruises for 20 years, under the same owner who has been everywhere you can think of.

Any time I have had a problem, they have taken care of it for me.
