Last weekend I was looking for something to do with my son. I was considering a hike and kept hearing about a big corn maze at a farm advertised on the radio. I thought that would probably more fun for him and give him the opportunity to experience a farm. So I arranged for one of his friends to come along as well. I started to drive an hour to get to one and then found that there was one less than 5 miles from my house. There are quite a few of these things now. I linked off their website to a corn maze company that boasts over 1,000 of these. I didn't read all about it but I think they might be the ones that come out and actually build the maze.

We had a lot of fun, especially the kids. We did 3 different mazes that were different levels of difficulty. Number 3 was pretty tough. They also had farm animals, goats that climbed a catwalk kinda thing, pig races, corn bin (for play), hay jump, big slide, old fashioned water pumps (for play), a corn cannon (shot ears of corn), hayrides, cotton pickin' (literally), and a haunted hay ride.

It's funny, I think they enjoyed picking cotton more than anything - a chore that my now 87 year old Dad loathed. Of course they might have gotten their fill pretty quick if they'd had to pick a hundred pounds or so.

Has any one else been to one of these in your area?

It has me thinking about doing a real farm or ranch vacation. I'd love to hear about anyone else's experience with that as well.

there are a bunch in cincinnati area, too
I'm sure your son had a blast--anyhting to do with Dad and Grandpa had to be a HIT! but, I go with Grandpa on the labor thing--too much of a reminder of the one time I helped friends pick tobacco--thank God they paid well!! To paraphrase Oliver Douglas of Green Acres "farm livin' AIN'T the life for me!"
Good on ya for being a good parent!
