Quite possibly. But Amtrak is a slave to freight trains, so journeys are constantly delayed.

When I lived in Dallas i dated a girl in Ft Worth and caught Amtrak or the TRE back and forth (silly me thought I wouldn&#39;t need a car for only 4 months). It is literally a 45min ride, which would be so on the TRE, but on Amtrak it was consistently late and once took 2hrs to traverse this small distance. I knew I should have chosen greyhound. And I felt bad for the girl opposite me travelling all the way to CHI from Dallas on the train.

I think the real benefit is in trips such as Washington to New York or Paris to Toulouse, I have done both of those and they are quite enjoyable and less hassle than by air, but once again expensive.
