Do you want to experience the adventure travel by train? Why not? Perhaps you were thinking that trains are ideal only for passengers going straight to their main destination. Though it’s partly true however, there is also an adventure traveling by train. Train travel is ideal for travelers who were looking for a great memorable travel experience. Since most of these kind of trains give opportunities to its passengers to explore the beauty of some places they passed by.

The Man in Seat Sixty-One is also a great site for train travel tips.

I agree with Nick--seat 61 is one of the BEST sites for train travel.
BTw--
who is this taniax person?? Student,, Kansas, American Airlines? or just American? Quite a bit IFFY in my book-- they seem to be doing a lot of advertising but not necessarily contributing or actually to nonrev experience. Would you please let us know otherwise? I think it would be helpful, so I hope we'll hear something more...

Far Better to have listed and lost, than to have never have listed at all.

Good point. My friend is Mr Carbon Concerned -you know the type. Always telling me flying is bad take the train this and that, and every time I say well consumers are driven by time and price (especially now).

Sure i've taken Amtrak many a time from Chicago to Kalamazoo for example, which is far cheaper than a ZED on eagle if booked early. But if you show up on the day to buy a ticket, forget about it. And forget about a schedule either.

there is a new amtrak deal for 8 segments (US pax can now buy/use) for less than$400. Of course, if you want sleepers, etc you pay more and some lines are exempt. I guess if you're in certain regions it might be a good buy?

Quite possibly. But Amtrak is a slave to freight trains, so journeys are constantly delayed.

When I lived in Dallas i dated a girl in Ft Worth and caught Amtrak or the TRE back and forth (silly me thought I wouldn't need a car for only 4 months). It is literally a 45min ride, which would be so on the TRE, but on Amtrak it was consistently late and once took 2hrs to traverse this small distance. I knew I should have chosen greyhound. And I felt bad for the girl opposite me travelling all the way to CHI from Dallas on the train.

I think the real benefit is in trips such as Washington to New York or Paris to Toulouse, I have done both of those and they are quite enjoyable and less hassle than by air, but once again expensive.
