Really? I guess I better start looking for a job. Do you think Delta is hiring?
But wait a minute. Let me see. Well, I knew this all ready because, its OLD NEWS to us. But here is what I found on the internet.
United Continental Holdings Inc. will cut about 600 front-office jobs through voluntary and involuntary cuts, the company said Thursday as it announced disappointing financial losses for 2012.
The world's largest airline did not detail where cutbacks will take place, but Chicago is likely to be most affected considering the corporate headquarters and network operations center are in downtown Chicago and that Chicago O'Hare airport is one of the airline's largest hubs.
Wow! Did you get that? FRONT-OFFICE JOBS! If you work in an office in Chicago....then, maybe I'd be thinking about putting some coals on the fire. Financial losses for 2012? Funny, why then a 2% profit sharing for all employees? Guess you can't believe everything that is out there either eh?
Yeah, I'm in an office job in DEN for UA. I think I should be ok (I'm working on the platform we're turning towards, which is not true of everyone in the department) but it's making quite a few in the company look twice at everything, I suppose. For what it's worth, this is about a 6% reduction overall, at least that's what our department is looking at.
Yes indeed Zedman. spongebue We have your back in the event of a layoff. Keep us posted..
Funny thing about how layoffs work around here. Seems like they would hire more people to cover a layoff. I know that sounds wierd, but sort of like cooking the books. Like...need to layoff 600 people system wide, but last month, they hired 700 people in the event of a layoff. (Don't ask me how that works?)
And when its all said and done, I see the same ugly mugs hanging around along with "New hires".
Heh, in my department many coworkers have been working here about as long as I've been alive. Most people I work with are my parents' age. Good news is that assuming I make it through this (again, I should) many people will retire soon, and there aren't many programmers/airline understanders out there so I have room for promotion
