Craig was an active participant in our forum for some time but is no longer employed by an airline and has become inactive.

Greetings from South Africa. Although I've only been working for Virgin Atlantic for six months, I've been involved in the airline industry for the past four years, through my association with a travel trade publication. I am a Customer Service Agent at Johannesburg International Airport, working primarily at check-in and at the boarding gate, but also assist with arrival and other departure duties.I decided to become a Nonrev Correspondent when I noticed that Africa had no representation whatsoever on the network, and to promote South Africa, often ignored and disregarded as a beautiful tourist destination by the rest of the world. Cape Town, Sun City and the Game Lodges are all easily accessible, with most giving airline employees generous discounts. So, if you're keen to visit, drop me a line and I'll do as much as I can to help. Looking forward to hearing from you !!!

Craig, we are going to cruise on Orient line in late Oct from Barcelona to Cape Town or Mombasa. We've not been to Africa at all, so we're pretty excited. I would assume safe for Amerians now?

Ports in Africa are Walvis Bay, Cape Town (for 2 1/2 days), Durban, Richards Bay, Zanzibar, and Mombasa for 2 days. We have not decided for sure if we will continue on from Cape Town to Mombasa or stay some extra time in Cape Town. Best non-rev route to fly out of Mombasa or Cape Town?

My husband works for UA, but of course they don't have any flights there.
Suggestions for spending at least two days in Cape Town? Best place to try a Safari? Economical suggetions? Hotel suggestion in Mombasa and Nairobi.

What kind of weather should we be prepared for?

Thanks so much, Craig, or any and all assistance.

    Hello Craig,
Thanks for offering your assistance. We are just wondering about which car rental companies offer the best airline discounts in SA. We plan to do rent a car/SUV fom PLZ on Oct 13 to drive the Garden Route to CPT, and are flying to HDS for a 4 day safari lodge stay. We also want to rent another car/SUV after our lodge stay to tour Mpumalange area, renting out of HDS airport.
We work for Air CAnada in Toronto. Any insights would certainly be helpful.
    Thank you very much.

    Craig,

How familiar are you with CPT? Do you know of an are called Kenwyn? I am looking for a hotel near there that is inexpensive...I can't seem to find it on any map. If you have any idea where it is, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Shona

hey Craig glad to have a friend on that end. I have a couple of questions. My husband and I and 5 of our kids are nonreving into johanasberg and then traveling down to east london to visit someone living there . first should we rent a car to go down to east london? and then on our way back through would love to see some wildlife up close but we are on a semi tight budget. Any suggestions? When i was little my grama went to africa and spent the night up in a tree house and the fed the animals right under her is that something you can still do? thanks so much for your time mamabrox@aol.com

    Hi Tricia,

I just saw that tree house "hotel" on the internet the other day!!! Someone else had mentioned it sso we went searching. I know the rooms were 75 usd a night, but I don't remember how I found the website or exactly where the "hotel" was....I will look in history on my computer at work to see if I can find it, and will let you know if I do.

    Tricia,
Depending upon who you work for it may be better to fly down to East London or Port Elizabeth and then hire a vehicle once you are there. It may depend on your timescales as its about 500 miles from JNB so a lot of time spent just driving. Try using SA search engine www.ananzi.co.za or www.eastlondontourism.co.za to look for info on game viewing etc
