Any suggestions for safari company to book through for 2-3 days safari in Masai Mara? Are there any that offer interline discounts?

Airline suggestions from Mombasa to Masai Mara or
Nairobi? We would like to go straight to Masai Mara vs Nairobi, but not sure that's possible.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hi Sharon,

Yes I know all the info you requre. Formerly a resident of Kenya (my dad was posted out there in the early days of Kenya Airways) and a very regular visitor. In fact I just got back from Kenya last week...

You want to visit the Mara... No problem... there is a great safari company called Destination Kenya which specialises in Airline Staff packages at reduced cost. Fantastic value. Right now you will probably want to stay around the Mara Camp or Governers Camp lodge as that is where the migration is taking place up into the Serengetti.

You can contact Edward Torach (Asst. Account Exec and Interline Travel Manager) on email desken@africaonline.co.ke (email me direct for cell phone number if you want it) and mention that you are airline staff and you heard of Destination Kenya via Mark (me!) from Swiss in London... All will be taken care of.

Yes you can travel to the Mara direct on Air Kenya (www.airkenya.com). Services every day and incredibly reliable. All from Wilson airport, Nairobi to the various air-strips. An experience in itself!

Let me know if there is anything else you need... Are you ok for accom in NBO? Places to go in NBO? Just give me a shout.

    Have a fab time :-)

Thank you SO much, Mark. I have been struggling with anyone answering my emails. We will probably not be staying in Nairobi. Just a few days for the safairi. We'll just need to get from the port to the airport.

We're in Mombosa 11/28 departing 32 day cruise, so wanted to head right over to Masai Mari, then fly out probably late evening 11/30. Haven't decided who we're flying out of Africa on. John's with United, so we're looking currently for best SA rate and schedules from either Nairobi or Mombasa to Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, etc. Then, we'll fly UAL back. (any suggestions for SA?) Is it difficult to get on?

Mara Intrepids had been recomm to us; they responded one time with pricing, and have failed to respond to 3 emails asking for specific booking procedures, etc. Kitcha Tembo was also recommended, but only emailed them yesterday.

Is Mara Camp you recommended a lux tented camp or regular CAMP? Sounds like Governers Camp lodge is a LODGE, right? We're thinking the lux tented camp would be the best "experience." So the migration will still be taking place end of November?

Thanks again, Mark, for your helpful info. I'll contact Edward.

    Jambo again!

SAA's flights are pretty much the same as any other airline. Loads vary with school holls, public holls etc etc. Have you thought of coming/going via LHR and travelling KQ? Great service on board (I know I used to work for them, but honestly, their new 767 sercice is really nice and your vacation starts the moment you get on board... you are in Kenya!)

Kichwa Tembo (The Elephant's Head!) is a lovely tented camp, I stayed there a few months back... as is Mara Camp. Both are Lux tented. I liked Mara camp as it is right on the Mara River and your tent is almost touching distance from the Hippo! It really is quite special. Intrepids I have not stayed at but have heard nice things about... to be honest, you cant go wrong in Kenya with service levels... we could all learn so much from them!

I have to rush to work now (0414!!!) but will write more when I am back home. Edward will certainly advise you where is best right now also...

Speak soon and I will be in touch :-)

Yes, KQ is Kenya Airways (see www.kenya-airways.com for details).

For domestic carriage to the Mara see www.airkenya.com

    ... and I'm Mark, not Edward ;-)
