What is the best time of the year to go to Sun City? I like weather in the upper 70's to mid 80's. Has anyone stayed at the Cabana Hotel? Does anyone know of a hotel in Sun City that offers great rates.........thanks

Yvonne,
Although I've not been to Sun City I've been to South Africa quite a few times post-Apartheid and it always seems to be in the 70's but breezy on the coast. I believe that a lot of the hotels at Sun City are run by the Sun International chain who I've had discounts before in other countries ( see http://www.sun-international.co.za ). Also RCI look after a lot of the properties in Sun City and you'll also see the occasional deal on the SA version of ebay ..www.bidorbuy.co.za.
For reference a useful search engine for SA is www.ananzi.co.za.

I just came back from Cape Town a week ago and it was splendid. We landed in Johannesburg then flew off to Cape Town the next day. The weather in Johannesburg was cool. It was probably around 19 degrees Centigrade. When I came back to my hometown I realized that I would like to take my Dad on a Safari Trip (his ultimate dream)he loves fishing too. My problems are.....should I do it this April (I have a week off) or October (I'll have my annual leave)? .....Is this the perfect weather for doing an overnight Safari Trip? Fishing? .......Would it be wise to stay in The Palace of the Lost City even for just one night? ...... is there a nearby four star hotel where we can stay in and just take a day trip to The Palace of the Lost City?

any recommendations or comments regarding this subject would be greatly appreciated. i need all the input that i can get regarding this matter. i am pressed for time.

Thanks a lot!!!

Hey Miles Away,

Glad you enjoyed beautiful Cape Town, I can't wait to go back one day. Best take Paul's advice and look at the Sun International site. The Palace is awesome and well worth the stay, albeit expensive. You can certainly stay at the much more reasonably priced Sun City Hotel (4*) or Cascades (5*) all in the Sun City complex and a walk away from the Palace. Be aware that access to the Palace is limited and you will still need to pay as a day visitor even just to enter and will not have access to all facilities as a resident does. I have a copy of indicative nonrev rates at Sun City if you wish to pm me I can fwd to you.

Cheers,
Ant
