i just joined nonrev. did you ever get a response to your query? i am planning to go to israel in 2010. what did you discover. i would like to do non touristy events as much as possible to make the trip special. as well as those places which one must see.\

i just got back from israel, and it was amazing! tours in israel are very expensive, and highly unnessisary. israel, is soo smal, and you can travel from top to bottom in less the 5 hrs. from the airport, you can pay 15 us dollars to go to jerusalem via shared taxi. once you are in jerusalem, every major site is excessable entirly by foot. there are signes everywere, and the people there are very freindly and will give you detailed instructions on how to get to any of the sites. you can take the bus for under 25$ rt to the dead sea, and the buses leaver jerusalem hourly. you can also get to elait, or tel aviv via the same buses for the same price, and busses are just as frequent. also there are severl free walking tours of jerusalem that are advertised all over the city. the guides are very knolagable and its a great place to start. let me know if this helps, or if you have any other questions
