Anyone got any recommendations on getting from Sharm to Cairo? Flying on my FOC to LHR and meeting a friend who works for easyjet, then flying with them into Sharm. Unfortunately neither of us have agreements with Egyptair, and they want $100USD for the 1hr flight which isn't too bad I guess - but is half of what it will cost me to get to the UK already! I heard there are buses but have noted several crashes which seems a bit sketchy to me...

Considering adding her to my staff travel so we can fly CAI to LHR on the return with BA.

Anyone got recommendations on places to stay in Sharm or Cairo or any tips?

Nick, You may want to check tripadvisor.com for a driver. I'm sure there are lots of people who tell you some good options. If the scenery is worth the drive, maybe the ride would be nice. $100 is pretty cheap to fly on confirmed seats tho!

Normally I would agree... but my currency has taken a massive dive against the USD!

You might try the Pyramisa Suites Hotel in Cairo. It runs around $170/night--expensive but still cheaper than most of the other Cairo hotels.

Try the Accor chain .. they have hotels in both Sharm and Cairo ( next to the Sphinx ).
If you use your airlines SC code you can get rates as low as 50-60 EUR per night.

we're going in Feb too--if loads work out.
FYI--if you haven't booked/paid for res @ Sofitel--reminder that you are charged when you reserve w/out refund for cancellation

Thanks for the info. Still waiting to book hotels... getting snagged on arranging staff travel on my friends airline to get back to London so that keeps changing our dates

That being said, her staff travel is for confirmed seats, so I don't mind waiting! As for getting to CAI we are on my staff travel which is subload

I know hostels don't work for everyone, but I stayed in Cairo for $8 a night in one.
It was clean and safe, located in the center of Cairo.

I can't wait to tell her "no shorts" or butt crack jeans...maybe that's the only way we can clean up her "fashion [non]sense"--take her to Arabic countries!
