If you are stopping in NRT for a few days, you wouldn't be considered traveling on a 'through' flight. You would do the normal routine of checking in at NRT before your flight or online if that's an option. The problem with HKG is that you have to have a boarding pass with a seat assignment to clear security and immigration whereas in NRT, you will be let thru with a standby boarding pass and issued a seat at the gate. Since you work for US, you would be eligible for a ZED LOW fare on JL.

I never had an issue going to a hotel layover NRT, then back for seat request next day. That station works like a chronometer. I've only flown DL (love the ground crew salute!) to both SIN and BKK. Ck out the SIN nocturnal zoo tour--supposed to be special.

It's worth a try. Otherwise, stop by a UA counter if you see an available agent, and they should be able to check you in, even from another city. The agent will probably know this already, but just in case, all they need to do is use 803/25JUNNRT for the flight number to specify the departure city and date, since it's different from the city they're in. As long as you have your passport, they should be willing.
