Default AA is first US airline with 777-300ER. Why are US Airlines so late to buy?

Air France has had a 777-300ER since 2004. AA last night became the first U.S. airline to put into revenue service the new Boeing 777-300 ER (Extended Range). The new type was introduced last night on the DFW -GRU as flight AA 963 arriving this morning, 9 years after Air France, 3 years after Air Canada and 1 year after Aeroflot.
