I can't answer all of that, since I'm not AA, but I can at least take a small load off of Migflanker here

There's a fine line between AA and not AA. But your best rule of thumb is that if the plane is painted as AA, it should be ok. US Airways I'm not sure about. Every merger has that weird limbo time where things are being ironed out and not everything is seamless, and that's definitely where AA/US is at. But you may see some codeshare flight numbers. That means another airline is operating a flight, but selling seats with an AA flight number. For example, a Cathay Pacific flight to SFO would probably have an AA flight number. That's still a Cathay Pacific flight, and you would not be eligible for that. On the other hand, American Eagle flights would be A-OK. Again, look at what's painted on here, and hope you don't come across this monster File:Northwest Airlines-KLM DC-10 hybrid livery Spijkers.jpg - Wikimedia Commons (that was used to announce a partnership between NW and KL years ago... it's actually a NW plane. The other side has the same thing, but reversed)

I remember reading on here about a nonrev who was given a seat in F despite being listed for Y, and they did get charged for it.

    Right you are Brian.
As of now AA and US have two separate systems. Meaning you can’t be rolled over on different metal.
Jay, your passes are for AA flights. If you don’t make it on you’ll be rolled over to the next AA flight, and yes with a once-a day flight that means you’re stuck spending the night in the airport or at a hotel.

Jay just a reminder, what you have now is a flight listing. AA boarding is based on check-in time (within boarding priority) and check-in opens 24 hours prior to flight departure - set your alarm.

Thank you guys so much for dealing with all my questions! It's seriously been a lifesaver. It's just been difficult for me to figure it all out since these benefits are relatively new to my great aunt and she never was taught how to use the online jet net stuff, since she originally lost her retiree flight privileges in the late 90's. You all have been so wonderful.

So where I check in (as early as 24 hours before departure) is the "Jet net Check-in" tab on the right column at jetnet? That seems like an obvious answer, but I just want to ensure I'm doing everything correctly. And I'm assuming I would want to do it ASAP too.

With the one flight to HKG a day, does that mean if 10 people from the day before (July 7th) don't make it onto the flight, that they would have higher boarder priority on July 8th than the people that had listed (and checked in) for July 8th?

Jay there’s also a check-in link on the JetNet Home page (first column) under ’Quick Links’ AND read the rules for Check-In - NOW!
Jay, non-revving is a great perk, but it can be nerve racking.
You have to be flexible and prepared for “whatever”, including 10 non-revs from the previous day rolling over onto your flight or your fiancé not making it on.
Options, ( alternate flights, alternate airports, alternate routing) having a plan A, B, C, D is a requirement and understanding that weather, a mechanical, any number of things can throw all your well-made plans out the window.
Trust me, it’s much easier coming up with plan B, C, D at your kitchen table than at gate 47A.
Maybe a week out, start watching your flight (as well as the day before & after) and that PVG flight too; you may want to edit your flight again - and there’s always your return...uh-huh.
Chances are things will go smoothly, but if they don’t, you want to be prepared and able to handle it without breaking a sweat.

Thank you so much Mig, that is some really awesome advice! I lol'd at the "easier coming up with plan B, C, D at your kitchen table than at gate 47A". I'm sure that's so true! So I can edit my flight up until a few days before, correct?

You all have coached me so well for my first non-rev experience in a long time! And my first international non-rev experience! I can't thank you enough for all your answers to my questions. I really have a ridiculously better understanding of the process than I did before!

Hey guys, I just thought of something and wasn't sure of the answer. So let's say I try to get to China on the 7th, and I don't make that flight. Do I have higher priority on the 8th than the rest of the people listed for the flight on the 8th? Or do I get the same priority according to my pass rank, even though I rolled over from the day before?

You would get a higher priority than someone within the same rank (D2RT and D3T in your case). Any D2 or D1 traveler would always have a higher priority regardless of when they checked in.

Thank you! That's good to know. REALLY good to know in fact, that definitely affects the planning of things, haha.

So this may seem like a dumb question, and I kind of think it is, but I just have to ask to be extra sure. If I don't make my flight, will the gate agent assist in listing me for the next one? I don't have to list for my back up flights, right? I feel like I know the answer here but I'm just trying to be careful, haha.

That is correct. Agent will roll standbys over. Since AA is based on time of check-in, and that is when you checked in for your initial flight (as far as I know) you'd be hurting yourself to list multiple times, not to mention making things a little difficult for other nonrevs below you (if you may or may not show up, depending on if you get the original one). That said, on UA it's an entry the agent does have to do, and sometimes forgets to. It's not unreasonable to ask them if they've transferred the list before going to your gate

Brian is on target, do not list for backup flights. You only have to go with plan B, if plan A doesn’t work out. And download the JetAway app (you can see the priority list) it will help.
