Default Upgrade to Main Cabin Extra?

Does anyone know how the process works to upgrade to main cabin extra?
Due to a long leg issue it would be very helpful.
Once the GA has your boarding pass, is that the time you would ask if space is available?
How and where would you pay?
    Is it even possible?

    Thanks in advance!

The short answer is no. Just like getting an aisle seat in an exit row vs. buried in the back in a middle seat between two sumo wrestlers, it’s your priority and availability

Thanks so much for the info!
One more quick question if I may, if I received an email with a record locator number, I am assumed to be flight listed?
(24 HRS/Day-of-travel) my employee needs to check me in and send me my "boarding pass"?
Thanks again for all the info!

Yes, 24 hours prior to the flight, your employee sponsor can check you in and email your standby boarding pass which will get you through security.

With the pnr you can also reprint the boarding pass at a kiosk when you get to the airport.

Thanks isppilot! Assuming I am flying non-rev (not AA20) at the airport if I have the PNR, I do not need to visit the counter, a trip to a kiosk will do the job?

Or as a non-rev flyer you need the check-in document from the employee sponsor to present to someone at the counter?

With the pnr there should be no need to go to the counter. The kiosk will print a priority verification card or if the flight is wide open, a boarding pass. Either document will get you thru security.
