Default D3 DFW to HKG with daughter

Hello! I’m new to nonrev flight. I’m traveling on a D3 as a family member. I gather from having read several posts that the best way to use this pass is for nonstop intl flights. There is only one nonstop from DFW to Hong Kong per day. I’m traveling in July with my teenage daughter, who’s a trooper, and we are trying to go to Bali, so I’ve been looking at LCCs for the flight from HKG to DPS. Has anyone had any luck getting on DFW-HKG? I get that it’s much harder with two of us. Would it be advisable to try out of LAX instead? Should I wait to buy tix from HKG to DPS until we actually get to HKG? IF we ever get to HKG? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

Best thing is to wait until on the aircraft to HKG from LAX or DFW and then pay for wifi access then start looking for tickets to DPS. Possibly look connecting through KUL or SIN for lower costs. Might cost more waiting until last minute but you would lose out if you could not get to HKG on the day of your paid flights.
Also, look at flights from China (PVG or PEK) as you can have a transit without visa IF YOU HAVE CONFIRMED SEATS out of those cities, just in case flights are cheaper. You would only be able to go to DPS doing that, looking at other routes back.

Chose LAX or DFW whoever has the best number of seats on the days you want to fly.
always have backups like SYD/AKL even though flights from DPS to those cities are more if AA flights have seats its better to get home then stuck somewhere.

Welcome aboard mamanola and welcome to the roller coaster world of non-revving. As D3s planning/flexibility/traveling light and backups are key. Your sponsoring employee is your lead trip planner and troubleshooter and your best source for travel info. If you haven't already read the NRTP Guide, it will steer you through the process. I gotta go along with Offroader, booking your DPS tickets after you're underway seems the better option and do consider connections, as D3s (traveling together) you re low on the non-rev ladder - as the saying goes:
In the air is always better than waiting around with fingers crossed on the ground. *wink*

Thank you migflanker! I got hold of the NRTP guide. I think we’re just going to save our money and buy tickets for next year.
