Hilton Head Island Airport Announces New Jet Service from American Airlines

The HHH Airport announces that beginning July 5th, American Airlines will begin operating jet service on its nonstop route from Hilton Head Island to Charlotte. American will transition from its current Dash-8 turboprop service to Embraer 175 regional jet service. The E-175 aircraft is a 76-seat aircraft offering first-class service, reliability, and a quick connection to hundreds of destinations via the Charlotte hub. The larger aircraft offers passengers an all-jet experience while maintaining the ease of traveling to and from Hilton Head Island.

Jon Rembold, Beaufort County’s airports director, notes that the up-gauging from American Airlines is a testament to the community’s support for the airport and due to its infrastructure improvements that have been underway over the last three years. The signature project is the runway extension to 5,000 feet.

“This runway extension allows airlines to re-evaluate Hilton Head Island Airport as a viable destination via regional jets,” stated Rembold. “We are thrilled with the partnership that American Airlines has shown to our community over the years and are pleased to have been able to work with them to enhance that commitment with the E-175 aircraft. Our job is to provide as many safe and reliable air travel options as possible for our residents and visitors. We are dedicated to that mission and the entire airport team is excited about this announcement. Many thanks to the Beaufort County Airports Board and Beaufort County Council for their support of the airport.”
