I know this is late info, but for future reference. Jan and Feb is a good time to go since their summer starts in March. China, Northwest and Philippine airlines are good ones. I am going next month on Philippine airlines out of LA. In Manila, Greenhills shopping center is great, if you can get to Borocay , thats a beautiful beach location.

Hi, I just read your posting. I have been to the Philippines a few times this past 2 years. I like going to the island of Cebu, Manila is crowded and has a lot of air pollution. Cebu City is an international city. The there are many nice resorts on this large cigar shaped island, with a variety of price ranges,$20-$500 per night. I have a few favorites that run about $30 a night right on the beach in A/C. Try flying through Hong Kong on Air Canada. Then book travel on Cebu Pacific Airlines to Cebu. The airport in Manila is a hassle, Except when flying Philippine Airlines.

I was just in the P.I. last April. I've been to the Philippines off and on from 1995. First time on the MPS ships and next few times, flying from SAIPAN to MANILA, a three hour flight, but then we moved to Houston. Been to P.I. twice in the eight years now living here. So, all in all, been there alot of times. I don't recommend going there in APRIL. It's the hottest time of the year which I found out the hard way. It is way too hot. In upper 90's every day, no breeze to speak of in Metro Manila. I go there to visit with the wife to visit her family there. This time, we went via BEIJING to MNL on Philippine Airlines. It was wide open. Coming back was a bit of a challenge. Did the MNL-GUM-HNL-IAH route, barely made it, can swear we took the last seats from HNL TO IAH. Got bumped with NWA to NRT so had to wait till that evening to get out into Guam. I would check ahead and see how the flights look, and get a PAL back up just in case. It's only 80 bucks or so to LA from MNL on a Zed fare. Get out of MNL if you can, go to BAGIO or anywhere in the province. MNL is way rank and polluted and too hot. But dam its fun. I recommend drinking SAN MIGUEL LITE for the heat and if you can sneak a TANDUAY bottle of rum stop in one of those COCONUT vendor places and throw a shot or two into your coconut. Grand total cost for the bottle is maybe 50 cents for a little one or ONE BUCK for a bigger bottle. The coconut runs PENNIES!!! How about that for a buz. Check out the SPANISH FORTS around MANILA BAY for some history. I haven't done that yet, but that is on the agenda for the next trip. Later.

You can take just about anyone from the USA to NRT. NWA flies to NRT from DET, ORD, MSP and CAL flies from IAH to NRT. From NRT, you can take PAL, JAL, NWA to MNL. It's relatively easy connections, just watch the loads. Avoid EASTER time. That's when all PINOYS head home with lots of baggage.
