Hi--I finally located this info which will apply to us because we will have Skymiles seats to connect to Bali. I see the dilemma about "non-confirmed" seats and my advice from the agent I know is get the L tourist visa. I think you'll see the fines involved

Visa not required provided:
- continuing to a third country by same/first connecting

aircraft within 24 hours; and
- holding confirmed ticket and documents required for

onward journey.
Leaving the airport transit area is allowed.
Overnight facilities are available outside the airport.


However, and only applicable if arriving at and departing from:

Shanghai Hongqiao or Pu Dong airports:
visa not required provided continuing to a third country

within 48 hours and holding confirmed onward ticket and

all documents required for next destination.


Non-compliance with entry regulations will result in

deportation of passenger by same or returning aircraft.

Fines for the transporting carrier varying between CNY 500.-

and CNY 2,000.- will be levied for each passenger with an
additional fine varying between CNY 5,000.- and CNY 10,000.-.



INDONESIA (ID)



Passport required (must be valid at least 6 months after date
of entry).

Visa required, which can be obtained on arrival for a max.
stay of 30 days provided:
- passport contains at least one unused visa page for the
visa-on-arrival sticker, which covers entire passport page;

and
- holding ticket and other documents for return/onward journey;

- holding at least USD 1,000.- or a valid credit card; and
- arriving only via the airports of: Balikpapan (Seppinggan),
Denpasar Bali (Ngurah Rai), Jakarta (Halim Perdana Kusuma

Medan (Polonia), Padang (Tabing), Pekan Baru (Simpangtiga),

Solo (Adi Sumarno), Surabaya (Juanda) or Yogyakarta (Adi
Sucipto).

If passenger holds an APEC Business Travel Card:
visa not required, provided back of card states it is valid
for travel to Indonesia.

Warning! The day of arrival in Indonesia is counted as the
first day of stay. Should visitors over stay in Indonesia,
