We have recently moved to a ZL fare with UA and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice while trying to get to MEL from the states. Looking through our agreement it doesn't indicate what fare class we purchase it, just the ZED fare class. That said, I am wondering what the likelihood of UA letting my partner and I go either F or C if Y is full? We are looking to go around the first few weeks in April but not sure if there is a DOW that is better than another? Is there a better chance to get out of SFO vs. LAX and vice versa?

A lot of questions, I know! We have gone through Europe fine on other airlines, I have just heard that UA can be tricky with other airline non revs. Thanks in advance for any guidance Let me know if I can be of any assistance with B6 questions

Totally aside here, but do you have an agreement with QF or VA or DL (syd)?

All these carriers have inseat IFE whilst UA does not. Trans pacific is a LONG trip with nothing to watch I tell you...

Unfortunately we don't.. that would make life too easy! Ugh! I thought they flew the B747 to SYD and those had the IFE on each seat... 18 hours with nothing would drive me insane. This surely will change our plans.

Jrazakll - Avoid LAX. Cargo hub and payload issues. Too early for loads in April

Yeah, United doesn't have personal screens in each seat in couch. Makes for a long trip!!! I can't complain coming from WN though. Hahaha!!! I've heard from friends that SFO is the way to go to SYD/MEL out of the states on United. Unless you're on a buddy pass or you're attached to an employee somehow, you're not gonna make it on out of LAX (weight restrictions, plus the tickets agents are friendlier in SFO). I also got word through a friend that when traveling to MEL you will have to be ticketed twice on ZL. Once for the SFO-SYD leg and then again for the SYD-MEL leg. (SYD-MEL is ALWAYS empty!!!) Hope this helps out! Qantas has a sale on right now for the time of the year that you're planning to travel, I think. Check them out...... I just flew the A380 and it's IFE in coach blows any IFE that I've had in first class out of the water. Definitely give it a try if you have an option! Hope this helps....
