Default recommended hostels in hong kong

Hey, just wanted to see if anyone has a recommended hostel in hong kong, perferably on hong kong island as I have a hotel reserved for the 28th - 31st. I am planning on showing up on the 27th but the hotel does not have any rooms.

Its so hard to look at reviews as 50% say its the best hostel they have been to and the other 50% say its the worst.

So, checking here to see if any other non revers have hostel recommendations in hong kong

    Thanks,Tony

PS, I do not want to reserve a room just in case I do not head out a day early

I should add out of my limited outside of U.S. travel I have never stayed at a hostel. Should I be able to find one easily around midnight (plane lands at 10:30pm) on a Saturday.
Does anyone know if the Hong Kong visitors desk at the airport will call around to look for a room or give recommendations on places to check.

    Thanks again, Tony

    Tony,
You mention a hostel but don't name it. What rate are you looking at at the hostel. Have you looked at hotels with airline rates?. The IBIS at North Point would be about USD 50 a night ( via Accor site using your airline access code ) and you can cancel up to the day before arrival without penalty. Not stayed there but its on the airport bus route and a short walk from the underground station.

Paul, I have reservations at the ibis North Point for the 28th-31st. I decided I might go a day early and they do not have any rooms for the 27th.
I told them to get in touch with me if there is a cancellation.

I would like to find someplace that would be around the $50 or less. Even the more popular hostels are more than this it seems. But, most do not show
any rooms available, or no single/private rooms.

I would expect I should be able to find something for under $50.

Just trying to find out if anyone has been to any hostels in hong kong that they would recommend.

    Thanks for your reply

    Tony

I believe there are recommendations on tripadvisor HK forums. Did you check the Y's--there are several.

Don't forget to buy your refundable Octopus Card (small deposit withheld) on arrival. Plenty of ATM right there in arrival hall.

Check out Dragon Hostel in Mongkok. That area is pretty cool for night shopping/eating. $25ish It's probably close to the bird and flower markets but not sure how active they are on a Sunday morning.

I think I am ready for Hong Kong, I know to get the Octopus card, I know how to get to the hotel. I have lists of things to do.

The Dragon Hostel does not have anything open for the 27th. The Y's I believe were even more money than the ibis hotel.

So, unless the hotel informs me of a cancellation I will probably just head out on Saturday as planned. If something comes up then I will head out Friday.

    Thanks.

North Point Ibis is a WAYS away and the rooms very small. Make sure you take the bus rather than the MTR, or else it's 2-3 trains.

Apparently the cooked food centre diagonally opposite the ibis is quote good. The breakfast at the ibis was cheap if I recall and not too bad.
