In Dubai I did the Four Points by Sheraton at Bur Dubai. We used hotel points so it was free, but it is a convenient hotel located within walking deistance to some of the major attractions and virtually across the street from a mall. At night the area is quite busy with peltny of taxis coming up and down the street. Better yet there is metro stop near by.
There is an Indian restaurant in the hotel that is to die for.

Depends what you eant to do in Dubai ... do you want a beach hotel ( more expensive ) or one more 'inland' near the shops ( cheaper ) ??
Thanks everybody. Beach hotel not important, we'll get plenty of sun on the ship and later back in the USA.

they have a nice pool and it seems like a very local type neighborhood

For SIN what is your budget? Hotels here are very expensive....
The best i'd recommend is Marina Bay Sands, casino is there and the pool on the top overlooking the city and bay.
In the city so many options, expensive but less than marina bay sands:
- Swissotel and Carlton are close to everything
- Novotel Clarke Quay is in the touristy area and sometimes have specials

Check our the Accor and Golden Tulip hotels in Dubai. Near the Mall of the Emirates, near to the Metro station, and can be very cheap relatively for Dubai.
We're booked at Arabian Courtyard and Swissotel??? in SIN. Will cruise on Voyager Of The Seas from DXB to SIN.
And.....we'll "pay attention" to the life boat drill!!

Suggest that you also use the pool(s) to practice your swimming, preferably wearing your day clothes !!!
