My son and his wife are going to the Westin St. John for about 5 days the middle of October. I have never been there and neither have they. Any tips on good places to eat, fun things to do etc. Should they rent a car? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JC

they drive left and a tad on the reckless side
can't say about restaurants, sorry--it's been a while
there are "buses"--open truck shuttle you can stop anywhere on main roads for transport
I can recommend HawksNest Beach (no potties) but gorjus swimming--frequently private
Megans bay is the commercial beach that used to have some decent restaurants--beach fare
The National Park is good for snorkeling--they rent everything from chairs to equip plus admission fee--showers, changing/locker room etc
Island is small--maybe rent a car for a day--go into town and rent there--they charge plenty to bring you one to resort

They can take a ferry to nearby island for day trip, too

St John is one of the most beautiful islands we have ever seen (right up there with Fiji!) but lots closer! The Westin is a beautiful resort and it is self contained so there is not much you will be seeking outside it's pristine grounds. However, if you want to see a gorgeous beach, head over to Trunk Bay (voted as one of the best in the world), truly spectacular. And, by the way, Magens Beach is not on St John (as another contributor stated) it is on St Thomas. Magen's Beach is also beautiful, in fact it's shaped like a heart, and probably the best beach on St Thomas. St John is a short, scenic boat ride from St Thomas (about $100 per person round trip). The Westin dining facilities are expensive, however, keep in mind the location and the facilities and you won't be disappointed. Have fun!!

silly me!! Magen's Bay...major BLONDE moment.
I don't even like St Thos!!

Trunk Bay is the Nat Park on StJohn
I agree that St John is one of the best islands in Carib.
My fave beach w/out facilities is still HawksNEst and it's fairly close to Cruz Bay town

Driving on the roads over there can be an experience in itself sometimes!
