Also trying JNB (well going to CPT though JN at the end of the September. Anyone ever have luck purchasing ZED's at a Delta counter in JNB? I plan on taking a few with me (DXB, FRA, CDG), but just in case I forget an option that I might want to try, is it possible to buy ZED's overseas? I know most of the counters are staffed by a 3rd party (Swissport or KLM/Airfrance agents) and not necessarily DL agents, are they able to ZED fares?

Its always been a dream of mine to have a little book in my back pocket. A book titled where to buy your Delta ZEDs around the world. Go to the Germany page and you see the exact physical location in FRA, TXL, DUS and MUC. While I'm still dreaming I need an iphone app for that. Of course it must work offline too. Does any one want to start with a CDG chapter?

I think I can find about JNB staffing ; previous experience w/Station Mgr at JNB: if anything requires extra effort, fegeddaboudit.
We love Cape Town!! Chapman's Peak Road is open again!! Boss hikes Table Mtn and did the shark dive. I like the wines...
    What dates are your targets?

Looking at going sometime between the 18th and return on or before Oct 1. I'll work out the exact dates based on what flights look like as I get closer.

Looking at touring the Wine Lands, Hiking up Table Mtn, and taking photos at the Cape, and partaking in the night life.

I'm a little gun-shy as I got stuck in Rome during the volcano eruption in April...that got expensive quick. Plan on packing a bunch of Zed's and giving myself extra time to get home.

I flew with a guy a while back that said he had purchased Zed tickets while in london to go to cdg with his daughter. I didn't know it was possible to buy zed's abroad like that, so I was curious if anyone else had done this.

Boss said JNB has DL staff who can write zeds but recommends taking them with you. I don't know if you've seen it, but there is a new ALERT for cargo JNB/ATL and I've already seen a few nonrevs abandoned. One checked bag allowed--I'd plan to carry on and wear those hiking boots on board. It can be quite difficult to make it to the gate once cleared, so be prepared (they hold that paperwork til last-minute...)
Good thing is that the last EK flight to DXB is a few hours later. So, if you don't get DL boarding pass, you can go to Emirates counter (at least that's our Plan B )

I found the terminal maps of JNB (aka OR Tambo)
Airports Company South Africa - Terminal maps
DL ticket sales desk(ID75) is opposite DL counters, near far right entry doors Terminal A
EK ticket desk is ID 60 far left entry same terminal
There's a decent mezzanine bar overlooking the departures check-ins.
You have to agonize for about an hour down by the counters before they call final nonrev status.
Are you flying w/another employees or spouse (or buddy)?

I too thought ZEDs could not be purchased abroad, but you were able to buy them in JNB, is that right? I am going to JNB in November. If I could buy ZEDs in South Africa, it would be a help for me.

If I have a mailing address in South Africa, could they be sent to me? That is my other option.

Very old thread, anyways it is normally best to purchase ZED's prior to travel just in case you can not purchase them abroad.

Some airports do not have delta ticket counters, others might have a counter but the person working might not know how to issue them.

Things will be changing over the next year as all ZED's are supposed to be going electronic. You can look on travelnet to see what airlines are e-zeds so far.

I know ZED's can be purchased in BKK (Bangkok) at the check in counter (if it is open and if the person knows how to issue them), also in HKG (hong kong) there is a counter there to purchase ZED's.

You would have to check with your travel center to see if they can mail you ZED's to Africa.

I think Ezeds cannot be issued by travel center--just online w/credit card. You get email response and print out to use as ticket. ID% tickets MUST be issued by Delta Agents/Ticket Offices--whether they can mail them is another story. Call the pass bureau. Note: most overseas DL counters have very limited hours.
PS--I bought our EK zeds when they were paper thru DL in the States. I haven't needed to buy them overseas yet, since I am well-prepared before we travel! (hint hint!)

PS--to mention [again] our EK flight to DXB--WORST international flight EVER--horrible service, seats and food. Never again, unless absolutely desperate.

If you are using myidtravel.com everything is electronic. This is the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion. It is nice to know that wherever I am I can log into the website and re-book, cancel, refund tickets when necessary. I think mrs767er is highlighting a very important point, if traveling on paper ZED's, be well prepared in advance. I have also heard many people state the same thing mrs767er says about EK. They were flying from YYZ to DXB and said the seats were horrible, and that EK would be a last resort in the future.

I was reading that the deadline for paper ZED tickets was around April 15th. Has anyone heard anything else about this?
