    Default Airport Standby List Question

On a recentl flight from DTW to Asia, I saw a passenger with standby code "B1" was cleared before S3/S4s got cleared. This is normal because they have higher priority. However, what I don't understand is this passenger was cleared to BE cabin. Should this be expected? BTW, he/she stands after several UP2As but before S3/S4s in the airport standby list. Thanks.

A B1 is a revenue standby. This is usually a "confirmed" pax w/ no seat assignment. Did you take notice if Y was oversold? I would think that's the only way a B1 would get up front

They may have been screwed on previous flight and upgraded to make up for issues. Could they have been booked in J initially? I've seen B1s up front.

That's true too. Plus DL has that nasty habit of overselling J on the 747s

Y was not oversold. Av/Au showed 1 Y seat available and after the plane left the Airport Standby List showed 7 Y seats remaining.

Thanks. So it seems either could be the reason why the B1 passenger was cleared to BE cabin.

That's a 777 plane. My buddy could have got one of the BE seats had the B1 passenger was not cleared, but unfortunately he ended up with a economy middle seat.

o, been there. No fun. HUGE difference between Y and J on the 777s. I hate to be "that guy," but I used a SWU cert a few weeks ago on ATL-LAX to ensure I got F, as this domestic F service flight was on the 77L that would continue on to Oz. The res agent messed up my priority, as did the next res agent and the next res agent, so I had to bug the gate agent, and then be persistant when the gate agent blew me off. She did end up fixing it and I went from #5 to #1 w/ 3 seats open.

I don't keep up on DL's intl equipment swaps as much as I used to. When you said DTW-Asia, I was assuming DTW-NRT(which I believe is still a 747, but I may be wrong). I'm hoping to buddy pass on the DTW-HKG at some point in the next few months if I ever take a day off.....hopefully in J..

Yup, system wide upgrade. You can really only use them for domestic or HNL....and I think caribbean. They're good "system wide," meaning you can use them to upgrade to any destination....but flights w/ BizElite you can only upgrade a Y/B/M fare. I've flown in Coach on a cheaper fare across a few oceans w/ SWU certs just sitting idle. The problem is you either pay a grand out of pocket to get your ticket up to an M fare and be upgradeable, or if by chance the cheapest fare available say ATL-DXB is a Y/B/M.....you'll be on a cheap ticket ATL-PHL-BOS-FRA-DXB....in Y on other carriers. That's when travelling for work isn't so much fun..

But yea, SWU certs....I've been Platinum for 3 years now and only ever used 2: HNL-SFO and ATL-LAX....the rest all got tossed
