Originally thought that DGS wants to get workers that are only working for flight benefits. However, one of our supervisors used to work with DGS, he said that they got rid of all their part time positions for the cleaners and told them it was full time or nothing. So, now they pay close to minimum wage and most of the workers are unskilled, non-english speaking immigrants.

For some tasks, like cabin cleaning, I can understand minimum wage. It is an easy job and requires hardly any training. However, for working on the ramp (parking, unloading, loading and pushback), you would think they would pay more to get and keep people who are competent that will get the flights out on time and won't damage the aircraft.

My other thought is that DGS wants a revolving door work place. It isn't a career. It is a job you get until you can find something better, which wouldn't take too long considering how bad the pay is. While $9/hour is above minimum wage, it is well below a living wage for MSP.

Don't limit yourself to $9.00hr, Airline jobs have always been based on the more you know the more you make. Learn Ops, get ALA qualified, be a supervisor, ect. If all you want is to load bags and fly for free, then $9.00hr is all you will get. I work for REAS whos start pay is also $9.00hr. I have been here for 3 1/2 years and I make over $13.00hr.....(reg ACS @ 3years makes $10.50Hr)plus a ton of OT......don't limit yourself....

    What is being ALA qualified?

I think that is important.... working in the airline industry now is just a job, not a career. Work part time for the flight benefits and pay your bills elsewhere.
