It is nice to have loyality to Delta but any chance your considering taking another air line perhaps with a cheaper fare.
Something to bear in mind the Passport and VISA requirements of any country you are transient thru getting A to B.
If you have bought the tickets already - perhaps a change of routing/plan (cost $100 ?) to something more realistic.
When I mentioned earlier "Think outside the box" here is a strange idea for you - - -
The world is round da- no thinking here - But from ATL fly East perhaps on DL or KLM as far as you can go and then
pickup Quantas for the last leg into MNL. Sure it maybe longer but time does not appear to be of essence here - just
getting there for the event.
It is a shame that the service of Pan-Am is gone (round the world flights).
This internet thing keep your fingers on the keyboard google; yahoo; or whatever and use it to find the cheapest way
to get to MNL. I am sure you can get to London or Amsterdam easily or Paris for the initial leg. Buy your ticket from
one of those points to the next connection point be it in India or the Indo-China penisula.
Should get you and others thinking about travel around troublesome places.

Continuing to think outside of the box...
I haven't priced tickets to Asia in years. Used to help family get to and from. $2000 is steep but in the past, Asiana, maybe Korean, China Airlines & Eva Air used to be a few hundred $$ cheaper than the Cathay and Singapore Airlines of the world. Obviously, you may consider Philippine Airlines. Occasionally even the expensive names like Cathay will have a fare sale. The mainland China airlines might be cheap but not sure if you'll run into visa issues as a transit passenger. Also, routing thru the middle east like on Kuwait Airways, Qatar or Emirates. Another alternative is Hawaiian Airlines from HNL. You might save a few bucks if you can nonrev to HNL but in the summer, those flights are full as well.
If you go the SYD route, you could purchase a cheap ticket on Jetstar from SYD. Back to DL, you may want to look into pricing tickets to NRT from cities where there is more competition like JFK, LAX or SFO instead of from ATL. Or from ATL, see what ATL-DFW-NRT costs you on AA or ATL-IAH-NRT on UA. As rma suggested, sometimes fares on the majors from European cities might be cheaper.
